‘Tis the season to give back

Season's GreetingsWe are in the midst of a very busy time of year: preparing for the holidays and shopping for family and friends (and perhaps ourselves, while we’re at it!). But amidst the mall crowds and parking-lot gridlock, we should also use this time to think about those in need.

Here at Corel, we make it a priority to give back to our community, both at the global and local levels. We have a diverse group of employees, and this is evident in the variety of initiatives we support.

You may have heard about our Corel Cares program, where we provide educational opportunities to children all over the world. That isn’t the only way in which we give back. We continue to support many initiatives close to the hearts of our employees:

Movember

That’s right ladies, last month the men at Corel gave their razors a break and grew mustaches for men’s health. While it provided a lot of entertainment around the office, these men also raised a lot of money and awareness for all kinds of cancer and illness that affect men.

Movember quickly grew into a global movement after starting as a grassroots charity in Australia. Those Aussies were onto something, as it is now an international phenomenon, and we are happy to be part of it!

United Way

The United Way is a North American program dedicated to helping everyone in the community realize their full potential. Its goal is to reduce homelessness, provide help for disadvantaged youth and give resources to newcomers in the area. Basically, it wants to make each community a better place to live.

Corel is a long-time supporter of the United Way Ottawa. We just kicked off this year’s campaign. While we won’t grow facial hair for it, our executives will wear aprons and serve pancakes, which is equally entertaining.

Food Drive

No holiday season is complete without a food drive. It doesn’t matter where you live, unfortunately many people in your area will need a food bank this holiday season. We are hosting a food drive this year, by placing donation bins throughout our office. All donations will go towards local food banks throughout Ottawa.

This holiday season, we encourage you to take some time to think of those less fortunate; think of a way to give back to your community. It can be a simple act or a grand gesture, but every little bit makes a difference.

Happy Holidays!

How do you plan on giving back to your community? Tell us in the comments below.

  1. David Webb says:

Why is Newegg selling defective copies of Corel Pinnacle Studio 17 Ultimate? The copy I purchased from Newegg crashes and Windows 7 stops it due to a problem with the program. I have contacted Pinnacle support and they are useless; they are not interested in fixing the issue, only in trying to sell me “premium phone support.” To this extend Corel’s policy is to delay, delay, delay until my 30 day free support expires. I need Corel to send me an updated, correct copy of Pinnacle Studio 17 Ultimate. Thank you.
